Vietnam wraps up 14th Party Congress, confirms top leadership lineup

VOV.VN - The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) concluded in Hanoi on January 23, marking the completion of key leadership elections and setting the political direction for the country’s new term.

The Congress, which opened on January 19, brought together 1,586 delegates representing more than 5.6 million Party members nationwide.

At the closing session, Le Quoc Minh, deputy head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, reported on congratulatory messages sent to the Congress by political parties, international organisations, foreign friends and overseas Vietnamese associations.

A total of 898 congratulatory messages praised the CPV’s leadership role and affirmed Vietnam’s growing stature on the international stage.

Speaking on behalf of the Congress’s Presidium, Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and Chairman of the National Assembly, announced the outcomes of the first plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee.

The Party Central Committee elected 19 members to the Politburo and unanimously voted with 100% approval to re-elect To Lam as General Secretary of the Party Central Committee for the 2026-2031 term.

The Committee also elected three additional members to the Secretariat. The 14th-term Secretariat comprises 13 members, including 10 Politburo members assigned to participate according to organisational arrangements. The Politburo assigned Tran Cam Tu, Politburo member, to continue serving as Permanent Member of the Secretariat.

In addition, the Party Central Committee elected the 14th-term Central Inspection Commission, consisting of 25 members, with Tran Sy Thanh re-elected as Chairman.

Following the announcements, the 14th Party Central Committee made its formal debut before the Congress. General Secretary To Lam, on behalf of the newly elected Party Central Committee, delivered a speech accepting the mandate.

He expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in the leadership by the Congress, describing it as both a great honour and a profound responsibility to the Party and the people. He pledged to devote all efforts to serving the Party’s cause, the revolution and the nation.

General Secretary To Lam reaffirmed the Central Committee’s absolute loyalty to the Party’s goals and ideals, its commitment to placing national and people’s interests above all else, and its determination to safeguard independence, sovereignty and national security.

He stressed that the Central Committee would lead by example, uphold discipline, translate words into action and focus on tangible results. Serving the people effectively, he said, would be the key measure of leadership capacity, credibility and honour for each Central Committee member.

The General Secretary also underscored continued efforts to build a clean and strong Party, strengthen unity and discipline, enhance power oversight mechanisms, and resolutely combat corruption, wastefulness and negative practices. He called for thrift, opposition to formalism, merit-based personnel management and zero tolerance for opportunism, irresponsibility and abuses of power.

He called for unity, determination and decisive action to successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, aiming to build a strong, prosperous and thriving Vietnam in a new era.
