Party chief To Lam pledges decisive action for Vietnam’s future

VOV.VN - The 14th Party Central Committee will act with discipline, accountability and a strong focus on delivering tangible benefits for the people as Vietnam enters a new development phase, said To Lam after being re-elected as chief of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee.

The newly-elected Party Central Committee for 2026-2030 unanimously re-elected To Lam as General Secretary at its first plenum in Hanoi on January 23, reaffirming leadership continuity as the country enters a critical development phase ahead of key milestones in the coming years.

Speaking at his inauguration, he expressed deep gratitude for the trust placed in the leadership by the National Party Congress, describing it as both a great honour and a profound responsibility to the Party and the people.

He reaffirmed the Party Central Committee’s unwavering commitment to the Party’s goals and ideals, stressing that national and people’s interests will be placed above all else. Vietnam, he said, will continue to safeguard its independence, sovereignty and national interests while maintaining political stability and social order as a foundation for long-term development.

Highlighting the leadership approach of the new term, the Party leader underscored the principle of action over rhetoric, calling for exemplary conduct, swift decision-making and effective implementation.

The effectiveness of serving the people will be the ultimate measure of leadership capacity, credibility and integrity of each member of the Party Central Committee, he stressed.

On Party building and governance, the General Secretary emphasised continued efforts to build a clean, strong and united Party, strengthen discipline and accountability, and improve mechanisms for power oversight. He reiterated that anti-corruption, anti-waste and anti-negative practices will remain a top priority, pursued in a more systematic, rigorous and results-driven manner.

The top leader highlighted the need to link anti-corruption efforts closely with the fight against wastefulness, calling for thrift, transparency and an end to formalism. He also underscored firm action against officials who shirk responsibility, act opportunistically or fail to translate commitments into concrete results.

Human resources development is identified as a key pillar of reform. The Party chief said personnel decisions must be based on merit, performance and public trust, with greater emphasis on empowering capable, ethical and action-oriented leaders while removing those who lack accountability or effectiveness.

The General Secretary also paid tribute to members of the 13th Party Central Committee who did not continue into the new term, particularly senior leaders, Politburo members and Secretariat members, acknowledging their dedication and contributions to successfully implementing the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

The leader also said Vietnam faces major tasks that require strong political will, strict discipline and sustained effort. He held that the 14th Party Central Committee will remain united, act decisively and work tirelessly to implement the resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, with the goal of building a strong, prosperous and resilient Vietnam in a new era of development.
