Vietnam vows to defend independence, safeguard sovereignty, advance toward prosperity
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam has emphasised that, under the Party’s banner, inspired by Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts and powered by the will of the people, Vietnam is destined to overcome all hardships and challenges, advancing toward peace, prosperity, resilience, and progress.

In his address at a grand ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of National Day in Hanoi on September 2, the top leader recalled the historic moment 80 years ago when President Ho Chi Minh solemnly read the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming the birth the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and opening a new era of independence and freedom for the nation.
He stressed that over the past eight decades of struggle and development, under the Party’s leadership, the Vietnamese people have surmounted countless hardships, transforming from a colonial land into an independent, unified nation that is steadily advancing toward modernisation and deeper international integration, with its position and reputation increasingly recognised on the global stage.
The General Secretary expressed profound gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, the revolutionary forebears, heroic martyrs, war invalids, wounded veterans, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, contributors, and others who sacrificed and devoted themselves to national independence, freedom, unity, and the people’s happiness.
According to General Secretary To Lam, the Vietnamese Fatherland is the crystallization of a thousand-year cultural tradition, indomitable spirit, intelligence, and the aspiration to rise. Every victory of the Vietnamese revolution is tied to the people’s strength and the great national unity bloc under the clear-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh's Thoughts. Thanks to this, Vietnam has transformed from a colonial land into an independent, unified country that is steadily developing, integrating, and asserting its prestige on the international stage.
Over the past 80 years, the Vietnamese people have proven that no difficulty or challenge can halt their path toward peace, independence, and prosperity. With resilience, wisdom, and determination, the people have safeguarded national sovereignty and territorial integrity while gradually affirming Vietnam’s position in the world, he affirmed.
Looking ahead to 2045, the centennial of the nation’s founding, the General Secretary underscored the lofty goal of building Vietnam into a strong, prosperous, and happy nation, where every citizen can take pride, and the entire nation can stand shoulder to shoulder with friends around the world. This, he stressed, is both an aspiration and a sacred vow before the Fatherland, the People, and History.
He further affirmed that Vietnam is determined and persistent in defending independence, freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity by harnessing the comprehensive strength of the nation across politics, economy, culture, science, technology, defense, security, diplomacy, and above all, the will of the people.
Vietnam aspires to be a friend and reliable partner of countries worldwide, while respecting international law and the United Nations Charter and resolving disputes by peaceful means, he said, adding it will never compromise when it comes to national interests.
