National Day spirit ignites youthful pride

VOV.VN - September 2 is not only a time to commemorate history but also a moment for young Vietnamese to reaffirm their love for the Fatherland, carry forward the legacy of past generations, and nurture aspirations for a stronger, globally connected Vietnam.

As Vietnam marks the anniversary of its Declaration of Independence, the streets of Hanoi are once again painted in red. From the narrowest alleyways to the grandest boulevards, the national flag flutters proudly, turning the city into a living canvas of patriotism.

On Hang Ma and Hang Luoc streets, thousands of red flags with yellow stars create what looks like a vibrant “carpet of pride.” Passersby stop, take photos, and gaze with admiration.

“Walking along these streets, decorated with countless national flags, I feel deeply touched and proud to be Vietnamese,” shared a local resident from Hoan Kiem Ward.

Vietnam’s youth are at the heart of the celebrations, finding creative ways to express their patriotism. In Tay Ho Award, alleys lined with flags have become social media check-in hotspots. A photo of two schoolgirls in red scarves, standing in an alley glowing with flags, recently went viral, stirring national pride online.

Young people dressed in Áo dài (traditional long dress), draped in scarves patterned with the flag, and posing with friends and family bring new vibrancy to National Day. For them, September 2 is more than a historical reminder - it is a call to responsibility for today’s generation to build the nation’s future.

Some travel from other provinces just to be part of the festivities in the capital. Le Khanh Ha, a student from Ninh Binh, explained, “For me, National Day is not only a celebration but also a motivation for young people to study, train, and contribute to the country’s development.”

On Doc Lap Street, groups of young people in colourful Áo dài gathered in front of President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum to take commemorative photos.

“Every National Day, I am overwhelmed with pride and gratitude for the generations who sacrificed so that we can live in peace, prosperity, and happiness today,” said Phương Trang, a university student.

Beyond the streets, Hanoi’s coffee shops are also transforming into patriotic spaces. Decked out in red-and-gold décor, they offer both aesthetic appeal and a sense of belonging for young visitors.

According to lifestyle platform Winci, cafés like Cimer Cafe&cake, Xinhyeu Coffee and More, NYNA Coffee, and Bơ Đây are among the most popular “patriotic hangouts.” Others, such as Sutori Kohi, Ka:mon Kafe, and Ga Kafe, get creative with themed drinks and pastries, serving treats like Independence Tea, Freedom Cake, and Happiness Flavour.

Cheka Cafe took the idea further, recreating the historic atmosphere of September 2, 1945. The space features a “Victory Gate,” a tribute corner for wartime artists, and vintage-style newspaper stands.

“We want to bring history closer to young people,” explained owner Nguyen Bao Ngan. “Here, they can not only take photos but also reflect, remember, and feel proud of their country.”

80 years on since President Ho Chi Minh proclaimed Vietnam’s independence, the younger generation continues to carry forward that spirit, not only in festive celebrations but also in meaningful actions. They study, research, start businesses, contribute in their workplaces, and spread positive messages online.

This year, more than 8,800 young Hanoians volunteered in a special mission for the grand celebration at Ba Dinh Square on September 2, demonstrating their commitment to building a modern capital and a powerful nation.

From the joyful laughter on decorated streets to the red glow of cafés, from solemn moments of remembrance to everyday acts of contribution, the youth of Vietnam are writing the next chapter of the nation’s patriotic story.

In their smiles and determination lies a strong belief that Vietnam will continue to rise, integrate, and affirm its place on the global stage. National Day, for them, is not just a historic milestone, it is an enduring source of inspiration.
