Top legislator reviews preparations for nationwide elections on March 15
VOV.VN - Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly and Chairman of the National Election Council, chaired a meeting in Hanoi on March 12 to review preparations for the nationwide elections scheduled for March 15.
The meeting brought together subcommittees of the National Election Council to assess progress and examine preparations for the elections of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and local People's Councils for the 2026–2031 term.
At the session, representatives of the National Election Council and its subcommittees reported on the progress of preparations, highlighting both favourable conditions and challenges encountered in organising the elections.
According to the report, preparations have been carried out simultaneously across the country, with nearly 79 million voters expected to cast ballots at more than 72,000 polling stations nationwide. The electoral organisational system from the central to local levels has been fully established in accordance with legal regulations.
Addressing the meeting, Chairman Man said that members of the National Election Council had conducted numerous inspection and supervision missions to localities in recent months.
These visits helped identify emerging issues during the preparation process and allowed timely adjustments to ensure that voters can exercise their rights and civic duties under the most favourable conditions.
The top legislator also commended localities for closely following the party’s Directive No. 46 and guidance documents issued by the National Election Council and other central agencies.
He noted the effective coordination among local administrations, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and mass organisations in implementing election-related tasks. As a result, preparations have so far been conducted in line with the planned timeline, ensuring transparency, democratic procedures and compliance with legal requirements.
With only a few days remaining before voters head to the polls, Chairman Man emphasised that the coming period would be decisive for the success of the entire election process. He warned that even minor oversights in organisation or implementation could affect the overall outcome of the elections and undermine public confidence. He therefore called on all relevant agencies to thoroughly review every stage of preparation.
Subcommittees of the National Election Council and its office were asked to continue coordinating closely with localities to inspect and verify all election procedures, including voter lists, candidate lists, election materials, polling station facilities and organisational arrangements at each polling unit.
Special attention should be paid to remote and mountainous areas, border regions, islands, and areas with difficult conditions where early voting may be organised.
The designated agencies were also instructed to ensure absolute security and safety during the elections.
Relevant agencies were urged to closely monitor developments and strengthen measures to safeguard political security and social order at polling stations.
They were also tasked with detecting and countering misinformation and distorted narratives about the elections circulating in cyberspace, preventing hostile actors from exploiting the electoral process to create instability.
At the meeting, Chairman Man also highlighted the important role of media organisations in informing the public about the significance of the upcoming elections.
Press agencies were encouraged to intensify communication efforts in order to create a positive and confident atmosphere among citizens.
Public information campaigns should be expanded and delivered through diverse and accessible formats, particularly for ethnic minority communities, including the use of minority languages to ensure that voters fully understand the importance of the elections and their civic responsibilities.
On Election Day (March 15), a rapid reporting mechanism must be maintained to ensure timely and accurate updates for competent authorities.
Chairman Man emphasised that the elections for the 16th National Assembly and local People’s Councils represent a particularly important political event for the country.
He called on all agencies and organisations within the political system to maintain the highest sense of responsibility and close coordination to ensure the success of the elections.
The elections must be organised democratically, in accordance with the law, safely and in a way that truly reflects a nationwide civic celebration, he said.
