Lunar New Year programme promotes Vietnamese products in Canada

VOV.VN - On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, the Canada–Vietnam Association and the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada jointly organised an online Lunar New Year programme featuring the launch of the “Vietnamese Products in Canada” initiative, aimed at promoting domestic goods to the Vietnamese community in Canada and Canadian friends.

The programme was attended by Pham Vinh Quang, Vietnam’s Ambassador to Canada, along with representatives of Vietnamese community organisations from across the country.

Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, sent a message extending Lunar New Year greetings and acknowledging the contributions of the Vietnamese community.

The event served both as an activity to preserve cultural traditions and strengthen ties with overseas Vietnamese, and as a platform to introduce Vietnamese products to Canadian friends.

Speaking to the Canadian press, Tran Thu Quynh, Trade Counsellor at the Vietnamese Embassy in Canada, said the launch of the Vietnamese products  during the traditional New Year was part of ongoing efforts to promote Vietnam’s exports to the market and to enhance  production linkages between the two economies.

She noted that the initiative would help show  the diversity of Vietnamese goods, particularly processed food and agricultural products, which currently account for about 4% of Vietnam’s total exports to Canada. Although still modest, these sectors are prioritised as they are closely linked to domestic farmers. They also face challenges in entering the Canadian market due to stringent quality and technical standards.

According to Tran Thu Quynh, the Trade Office regularly updates Vietnamese enterprises on changes to technical requirements, product recalls, warnings and destruction cases, to support compliance during production. It also works with Canadian authorities to invite local experts to assist Vietnamese small and medium-sized enterprises in the processed food sector, helping them better understand how to meet market standards.

Over the past five years, Vietnam’s exports to Canada have doubled to more than US$13 billion, highlighting significant cooperation potential, particularly as the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) continues to deliver tangible benefits.

The programme in Canada coincided with the first Spring Fair of 2026 at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre in Dong Anh, Hanoi. Through this integrated promotional effort, the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada and the Canada-Vietnam Association hope the platform will become an effective bridge connecting Vietnamese businesses with Canadian distribution networks and the overseas Vietnamese community, while supporting deeper integration of Vietnamese products into North American supply chains.
