Press channels voters’ voices to legislature: Top legislator
VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man has affirmed the vital role of journalism in national development, praising generations of Vietnamese journalists for their lasting contributions to national construction and defence.
Speaking at a meeting on June 15 marking the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press (1925–2025), he commended the press for providing timely and comprehensive coverage of NA activities before, during, and after its sessions. Media outlets, he noted, have delivered diverse content across key fields and increasingly adopted modern, multimedia formats, while also countering false and hostile information.
The NA Chairman called on the press to further strengthen coverage of major Party and national events, convey key leadership messages, and focus on important issues such as anti-corruption, waste prevention, and reforms in education and healthcare. He emphasised the importance of accurate reporting on the NA and People’s Councils, highlighting the press’s role in conveying voters’ aspirations to the legislature and helping build a more modern, people-centred parliamentary system.
Describing journalists as frontline forces in the ideological sphere, he urged them to uphold truth, promote positive values, and continuously improve professional skills, responsibility, and ethics.
He also stressed the need for the media sector to accelerate digital transformation, build modern and professional news organisations, safeguard information sovereignty, and contribute to the digital content industry. The revision of the Press Law, he added, is essential to better support journalism in the digital era. The NA’s recent decision to reduce corporate income tax for press organisations to 10% reflects its support for the sector.
At the meeting, participants discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between the NA and media agencies. Vietnam News Agency General Director Vu Viet Trang highlighted the agency’s active coverage of the NA’s ninth session and affirmed ongoing efforts to promote digital transformation and improve efficiency in line with current reforms.
