President honours outstanding journalists ahead of revolutionary press centennary

VOV.VN - State President Luong Cuong on June 20 chaired a ceremony in Hanoi to honour 150 veteran and outstanding journalists nationwide, on the eve of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925–2025).

At the event, Standing Vice Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation Lai Xuan Mon highlighted the historic origins of Vietnam’s revolutionary press, tracing back to June 21, 1925, when leader Nguyen Ai Quoc (President Ho Chi Minh) founded Thanh Niên (Youth) newspaper. The publication laid the ideological and organisational foundations for the Communist Party of Vietnam, established in 1930.

Over the past century, Vietnam’s revolutionary press has made significant contributions to national independence, reunification, and development. The 150 honoured journalists represent nearly 41,000 media professionals across the country who continue to uphold truth and serve the public.

In his remarks, President Luong Cuong expressed deep gratitude to more than 500 journalist-martyrs, including over 260 from the Vietnam News Agency, who sacrificed their lives for the revolutionary cause. He also paid tribute to generations of journalists and to President Ho Chi Minh, founder of Vietnam’s revolutionary press.

He affirmed that under the leadership of President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam, the press has remained a key force on the ideological and cultural front, contributing significantly to the country’s achievements.

Looking ahead, the State President urged the press to strengthen political integrity, professional ethics, and commitment to public service, while staying closely connected to the people. He emphasised the need for comprehensive innovation in content, technology, workforce, and operations to adapt to the digital era.

He also called on relevant agencies to improve policies that enable journalists to sustain and take pride in their profession, and to enhance training and recognition for young and dedicated reporters, who are seen as “revolutionary soldiers on the ideological and cultural front.”
