PM pushes for faster progress on national key transport projects

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on March 5 chaired the 24th meeting of the State Steering Committee for national key transport projects, calling for stronger efforts to accelerate the development of major infrastructure works across the country.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister praised the dedication of engineers, workers and contractors who continued construction during the recent Lunar New Year holiday, maintaining round-the-clock operations to keep projects on schedule.

According to the PM, in the early months of 2026 the Government has stepped up inspections and oversight of major infrastructure works, including expressways linking Lang Son and Cao Bang, urban railway projects in Hanoi, several sections of the North–South Expressway, and the development of Long Thanh International Airport.

At the committee’s previous meeting, 28 tasks were assigned to ministries, sectors and localities. So far, three tasks have been completed on schedule, 22 are currently under implementation and three remain unfinished.

The Prime Minister stressed the need to continue improving the national expressway network in line with technical standards while ensuring harmonious landscape restoration along new transport corridors. He also urged relevant agencies to accelerate the development of remaining areas and strengthen coordination between expressway planning and provincial development strategies.

In addition, ministries, project investors and management boards were instructed to review procedures related to investment costs, bidding processes and pricing mechanisms. These efforts aim to ensure transparency, facilitate future audits and prevent corruption or irregularities once projects are completed.

The Government leader emphasised that the entire political system is currently focused on implementing socio-economic development goals following the agenda of the Communist Party of Vietnam after its 14th National Party Congress in January 2026. To improve implementation efficiency, he called for clear assignment of responsibilities under the principle of “six clarities”: clear personnel, clear tasks, clear responsibility, clear timelines, clear products and clear results.

The Prime Minister also urged faster progress on several strategic expressway projects, including Tuyen Quang–Ha Giang, Huu Nghi–Chi Lang, Dong Dang–Tra Linh, Cao Lanh–An Huu, Khanh Hoa–Buon Ma Thuot, Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, and Chau Doc–Can Tho–Soc Trang.

Authorities were also asked to review and add interchanges connecting newly built expressways in order to maximise investment efficiency. At the same time, preparations should continue for new transport projects in southern Vietnam, including the Ca Mau–Cai Nuoc and Cai Nuoc–Dat Mui expressways, a transport route to Hon Khoai Island, and the dual-use Hon Khoai General Port project.

VOV.VN - After surpassing the milestone of more than 3,000 kilometres of completed expressways in 2025, the construction sector is speeding up key projects to move toward the target of around 5,000 kilometres of expressways nationwide by 2030, thus expanding development space and promoting growth drivers.
