PM orders speeding up Long Thanh International Airport project

Addressing a meeting of the standing members of the government in Hanoi on January 25, Chinh noted that during his recent fact-finding trip to the construction site, he observed a number of issues, including slow progress in some components that need to be addressed soon. He stressed the need to adopt a rolling approach to construction, ensuring all components are completed simultaneously.

Efforts should be made to actively accelerate progress and seize opportunities to stay on schedule, said the PM.

The government leader also instructed the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to report to him before the Lunar New Year the handling of officials responsible for delays in the progress, saying those responsible should be held accountable for the prolonged work.

The construction of Long Thanh Airport Phase 1 is progressing with significant advancements. The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has received 100% of the land area for construction and for traffic connection routes.

The project has 15 construction packages. So far, 3 packages have been completed, and the remaining packages are currently under construction. Completed packages include the perimeter fence, ground leveling, and passenger terminal pile foundations.

The construction contract lasts 885 days, from July 14, 2023, to December 15, 2025. Currently, 800 personnel and 196 machines are working on site, carrying out tasks such as embankment, pile drilling, bridge and beam construction. ACV aims to complete most of the packages and achieve technical completion by April 30, 2025, shortening the schedule by about 3 months.

The project is expected to complete most of the construction work by the end of 2025, with remaining packages completed by October 2025.
