PM inspects disaster recovery efforts in flood-hit Dien Bien province
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on August 3 made a field trip to Na Son and Tia Dinh communes, and Hang Pu Xi village in Xa Dung commune of Dien Bien province to direct disaster recovery efforts in the wake of the recent flashfloods and landslides.

During his field trip, the Prime Minister met with local residents, offering words of encouragement and presenting support gifts to those impacted. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives or remain missing and expressed deep sympathy for the hardships faced by communities in the disaster-stricken regions.
He commended the dedication and tireless efforts of the police, military forces, and local Party committees and authorities in supporting the people to quickly overcome the disaster and stabilise their lives.
“You must continue to support and stand by the people. When they see the military and police present and living alongside them, it brings a sense of reassurance. At this critical time, we must serve as both an emotional anchor and a source of material support. Our armed forces and police come from the people and exist to serve the people,” he said.
The Prime Minister called for the urgent rollout of recovery measures, stressing that funeral arrangements must be handled with dignity and compassion. He also emphasized the need to prioritize medical care for the injured to ensure full recovery.
Addressing the urgent need for housing, he instructed local authorities to arrange safe and adequate shelter for displaced residents and to quickly allocate secure land for rebuilding efforts. He underscored the importance of choosing safe locations to prevent future risk.

He also directed ministries and agencies to coordinate closely with local authorities to accelerate the recovery process. Key priorities include ensuring adequate food, clean water, medicine, and hygiene to prevent post-disaster disease outbreaks. He called for the rapid repair of landslide-damaged roads and the relocation of residents from high-risk areas. Agricultural production must be restored promptly, and damaged schools must be repaired in time for the new academic year. Any impacted health facilities are to be promptly inspected and restored.
According to the Dien Bien Provincial People’s Committee, prolonged rainfall from July 31 to August 2 caused widespread flooding and landslides in multiple localities, including Xa Dung, Tia Dinh, Muong Luan, Pu Nhi, Na Son, Tuan Giao, Phinh Giang, Muong Ang, Na Sang, Thanh Yen, Quai To, Sinh Phinh, Muong Phang, Tua Chua, and parts of Dien Bien Phu City.
As of 9:00 p.m. on August 2, the disaster had claimed 10 lives and left 7 injured. A total of 325 homes were damaged or lost property, with many households losing all belongings. Public infrastructure suffered significant damage, and around 33.6 hectares of rice, along with large areas of corn, pineapple, and vegetables, were destroyed.
