Helicopter deployed to deliver relief supplies to flood-hit Dien Bien

VOV.VN - The Ministry of National Defence on August 2 deployed a helicopter to deliver relief supplies to residents isolated by floods in the northwestern mountainous province of Dien Bien.

At 7:15 a.m., a helicopter took off from Gia Lam Airport, Hanoi, to reach Tia Dinh commune and other areas cut off by landslides and flashfloods that have blocked roads.

The first relief flight carried 2 tonnes of dry food and instant noodles from Gia Lam, transported by a helicopter from Air Brigade 918 under the Air Defence – Air Force Service. It is expected to land at Na Son stadium and Hang Lia village field in Tia Dình commune in the morning.

Heavy rain on the night of July 31 and morning of August 1 caused flash floods and landslides in Dien Bien, leaving 12 dead or missing, and destroying or damaging 60 houses in Xa Dung and Ta Dinh communes. Another 171 homes were affected in Muong Luan, Na Son, Tuan Giao, and Phinh Giang commune.

According to local authorities, several roads in Xa Dung commune were blocked due to landslides; National Highway 12 through Muong Luan was completely flooded; many roads in Na Bung, Muong Phang, Na Son, and Tia Dinh communes were submerged or eroded.

In neighboring Son La province, heavy rain also caused road collapses and blockages, sweeping away several suspension bridges in Pung Banh, Chieng So, and Muong Lam communes. Fourteen villages in Pung Banh and Chieng So were isolated.

Fourteen people stranded by floods in Son La were rescued by a Ministry of National Defence helicopter and officers from the Son La Provincial Police.

On August 1, the Ministry of National Defence deployed 753 personnel, including military officers, soldiers, and militia, along with 158 pieces of equipment and vehicles to support Dien Bien and Son La in locating missing persons and addressing the aftermath of the flooding.
