Party, State leaders mourn Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh

VOV.VN - Senior Vietnamese Party and State leaders on August 24 mourned and paid their tributes to Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh at his funeral held in the northern port city of Hai Phong, his hometown.

A delegation of the Party Central Committee led by Truong Thi Mai, member of the Political Bureau, permanent member of the Party’s Secretariat and head of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission, paid their respects to the Deputy PM.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and former Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh sent floral tributes to the funeral service.

In the condolence book, State president Vo Van Thuong extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, saying Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh is a cadre who dares to think, dares to do, and has made contributions to the common cause of the Party, the nation and the development of Hai Phong City in particular.

Other senior Vietnamese Party and State leaders, including Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Do Van Chien, also offered an incense and paid their tributes to Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh.

The Deputy PM was born in 1962 hailing from Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city, He was elected to the Party Central Committee for the 12th and 13th tenures. He was also elected to the National Assembly for the 12th tenure.

He kept several important positions in Hai Phong city before being appointed Deputy Prime Minister in April 2021.

He was tasked with monitoring issues relating to agriculture and rural development, industry and trade, construction, transport, natural resources and environment, and energy conservation, among others. 

The Deputy PM passed away in his house in Ngo Quyen district, Hai Phong City, at 20:20 on August 22, after a period of illness despite care and treatment efforts by experienced professors and doctors.

The memorial service will be held on August 26, and the Deputy PM will rest in peace at Tan Lien cemetery in Vinh Bao district.
