Party leader To Lam raises food safety issues during meeting with Hanoi voters
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam asked Hanoi not to compromise on food safety during his meeting with local voters on April 17 ahead of the coming ninth session of the National Assembly.

Hanoi must not lose control over food safety, as doing so would affect the capital’s reputation, the health of its residents, and the overall quality of the urban environment, he told voters.
The Party leader expressed deep concerns over recent alarming incidents involving counterfeit milk and medicine, stressing that the government remains committed to addressing these issues. He reminded that low-quality food, fake and counterfeit products must not be allowed to circulate in the market as they harm public health.
The General Secretary noted that food hygiene and safety have consistently been key concerns raised by voters, especially in Hanoi, where unregulated street vendors, makeshift markets, and stalls sell goods of unknown origin, including infant formula, posing significant risks.
Such a practice not only threatens public health but also creates widespread public frustration, he stressed, urging Hanoi to develop a specialised action plan to tackle this issue.
He also addressed the widespread encroachment of sidewalks and roadways for commercial use, saying it not only detracts from the city’s appearance but also compromises food hygiene, making it harder for authorities to monitor and enforce regulations.

The General Secretary called on Hanoi to take strong and decisive action, urging local authorities to intensify inspections and enforce penalties for violations. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of creating proper business spaces—such as designated food streets, modern markets, and service areas—where vendors can operate in compliance with food safety standards.
“Let us make real change so that tourists and citizens from across the country see a truly civilized Hanoi. a capital city worthy of its name,” he reminded.
At the meeting, the Party leader also answered voter questions relating to the restructuring of the state apparatus, the refurbishment of dilapidated living quarters, education and medical reforms, among others.
