Party General Secretary To Lam launches Tree Planting Festival in Ninh Binh
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam attended the launching ceremony of the Spring Tree Planting Festival 2025 at Emperor Dinh Tien Hoang Square in Hoa Lu city of Ninh Binh province, on January 31.
At the ceremony, To Lam recalled that more than 65 years ago, on November 28, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh wrote the article on the Tree Planting Festival published in Nhan Dan (People’s Daily). In the article, president Ho called on all individuals, families, organizations, and localities to actively participate in planting and caring for trees, highlighting the significant meaning and practical benefits of afforestation. Since then, with each passing spring, the Tree Planting Festival has truly become a nationwide tradition embraced by the entire Party, people, and armed forces.
The Party leader emphasized that tree planting is not only an activity with profound traditional significance but also a concrete and practical action to fulfill Vietnam’s strong commitment to the international community and implement the national strategy on climate change. It aims to foster a greener planet and contribute to the country’s rapid and sustainable development.
The General Secretary noted that public awareness campaigns must be enhanced through various concrete, vivid, and practical methods, to ensure that people understand the purpose and significance of the Tree Planting Festival, as well as the immense role, impact, and long-term, comprehensive benefits of tree planting and afforestation.
He urged people to enthusiastically engage in the tree-planting movement, raise awareness, and adopt effective measures to protect forests, prevent illegal logging, forest burning, and unauthorized exploitation.
The organization of tree-planting ceremonies should be tailored to local conditions to enhance practical effectiveness, efficiency, and cost-saving while avoiding mere formality, he reminded.
The Party chief requested that relevant ministries and sectors, particularly the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, strengthen supervision and guidance to ensure effective implementation of the tree-planting movement in localities.
Authorities must develop and implement policies that encourage both individuals and businesses to engage in environmental protection projects and climate change adaptation. These efforts should be linked with measures to restore degraded landscapes affected by industrialization and urbanization, he said.
The General Secretary also highlighted the need to refine the national green transition strategy across all socio-economic sectors. This includes reforming the growth model and restructuring the economy based on technological advancements, and fostering innovation, digital transformation, and natural resource conservation.
The Party leader expressed his confidence that, with a long-standing historical tradition and the unity and determination of the entire Party, people, and armed forces, the Tree Planting Festival would continue to yield practical benefits, effectively protecting the ecological environment.
