Party chief calls for model boarding schools across border regions
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam emphasised the importance of building schools alongside a modern, comprehensive educational environment during the groundbreaking ceremony for 121 inter-level boarding schools in Vietnam’s border communes on March 19.
The event, held at Dong Dang Inter-level Boarding Primary and Secondary School in the northern border province of Lang Son, was also attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, leaders of ministries and agencies, and representatives from 17 provinces.
The groundbreaking ceremony covered 17 main locations and 104 online points in border provinces including Cao Bang, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Hue, Quang Ngai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, and An Giang.
According to the Politburo’s Conclusion 81 dated July 18, 2025, Vietnam plans to invest in 248 inter-level boarding schools across all land border communes to narrow the gap in infrastructure and educational quality between border and lowland areas. Prior to the March 19 ceremony, 108 schools were already launched in 2025, bringing the total to 229 schools, providing comprehensive educational opportunities for students in border regions.
“To ensure all projects are completed on schedule and ready to serve the 2027–2028 academic year, while achieving the highest standards of quality and efficiency, local authorities and Party committees must take decisive action, conducting regular inspections, supervision, and progress monitoring,” Party General Secretary To Lam said the groundbreaking ceremony.
“Design, construction, consulting, and supervision units are required to carry out their tasks with the utmost responsibility, guaranteeing technical, safety, and aesthetic standards. These schools are to become model institutions in border areas, meeting the trust and expectations of local communities, teachers, and students alike,” he added.
The leader also emphasised zero tolerance for corruption, waste, or misconduct during project implementation.
Beyond infrastructure, General Secretary To Lam highlighted the importance of a comprehensive educational environment, fostering ideals, ethics, patriotism, and discipline among students. He recalled President Ho Chi Minh’s words on the role of learning in the nation’s future, and encouraged students to not only excel academically but also nurture dreams, ambitions, life goals, patriotism, and pride in their heritage.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that under the leadership of General Secretary To Lam and the concerted efforts of the Government, ministries, and localities, all boarding schools in border communes would be completed on schedule and operate effectively.
These schools are envisioned as symbols of knowledge, hope, and opportunity, contributing to the development of border communities, upland villages, and provinces in line with Vietnam’s national vision of prosperity, civilisation, and well-being, he noted.
