National Assembly to examine key policies next week
VOV.VN - The 16th National Assembly will begin the second phase of its first session on April 20, focusing on key legislative, oversight and socio-economic issues, including five-year development plans for 2026–2030.
On the opening day, lawmakers are scheduled to review proposals and appraisal reports, and hold group discussions on a draft resolution on breakthrough policies for cultural development, a proposal to establish Dong Nai as a centrally governed city, and a pilot framework for public lawyers.
The agenda also includes special mechanisms to address land-related violations arising before the 2024 Land Law takes effect, as well as measures to resolve long-delayed and stalled projects.
The legislature will spend around one and a half days in plenary discussions on socio-economic performance and the state budget, covering a supplementary assessment of 2025 results, developments in early 2026, and plans for the 2026–2030 period. Discussions will also centre on medium-term public investment, national financial planning, public debt management, thrift practices, waste prevention measures and gender equality goals.
In addition, lawmakers will review the proposed 2027 supervision programme and debate draft resolutions on cultural development, urban governance, legal policies and land issues.
Following revisions after the first phase, the National Assembly is expected to pass several key laws, including amendments to the Law on Access to Information, the Law on the Capital, and the Law on Civil Status, along with legislation related to notarisation, legal aid, emulation and commendation, religion and the operation of Vietnam’s overseas representative missions.
The National Assembly will also hear reports on voter petitions and review the implementation of previous recommendations.
A number of important resolutions are expected to be adopted, including those on socio-economic development, national finance and medium-term public investment plans for 2026–2030, as well as specific policy mechanisms in selected sectors.
The session is scheduled to close on April 23 with the adoption of the official resolution of the first session.
