National Assembly elects State President and Prime Minister for 2026–2031 term
VOV.VN - The National Assembly of Vietnam is to devote its full-day session to high-level personnel decisions on April 7, including the election of the State President and the Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term, in accordance with constitutional procedures.
In the morning, the National Assembly is to meet in a closed meeting to review personnel matters presented by the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and to carry out procedures for electing the State President.
This is followed by a plenary session, during which lawmakers discussed and approved the nomination list. The election is conducted by secret ballot. The vote-counting results are announced shortly afterward, and a resolution on the election of the State President is officially adopted.
The newly elected State President will take the oath of office and deliver an inaugural address before the Assembly.
Later in the morning, the legislature is to approve a resolution on the organisational structure of the Government for the 2026–2031 term. It will also endorse nomination lists for key positions, including the Prime Minister, Vice State President, Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy.
In the afternoon, the National Assembly will proceed to elect the Prime Minister through a secret ballot. Following the announcement of the voting results, a resolution confirming the election is passed.
The newly elected Prime Minister will take the oath of office and deliver a speech upon assuming duty.
The Assembly will then continue with the election of other key positions, including the Vice State President, Chief Justice, and Prosecutor General.
Relevant resolutions will be adopted during public sessions, some of which are broadcast live on national television and radio.
The personnel decisions to be made on April 7 mark a significant step in consolidating Vietnam’s top leadership structure for the 2026–2031 term, ensuring continuity, stability, and efficiency in the state apparatus.
