National Assembly election results expected on Mar. 22 after high voter turnout

VOV.VN - The elections for the National Assembly and local People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term have been successful, and the official results are expected to be announced on March 22, according to Nguyen Thi Thanh, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly and a member of the National Election Council.

A total of 76,188,544 voters across Vietnam cast ballots to elect deputies to the 16th National Assembly and representatives to People’s Councils at all administrative levels.

Data released by the National Election Council show that 99.68% of eligible voters participated in the election, with turnout in many localities reaching nearly 100%.

The high participation rate reflects the public’s strong interest in and responsibility toward one of the country’s most important political events, Thanh told the media.

Under the Law on the Election of Deputies to the National Assembly and People’s Councils, nationwide election results must be officially announced within 10 days after the voting day.

Thanh said the results are expected to be announced on March 22 after authorities complete the process of compiling and verifying election data submitted by localities nationwide.

Once the results are announced, the National Election Council will publish the official list of elected National Assembly deputies.

Factors behind the successful organisation of the elections

Assessing the results of the elections, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh said the most notable difference was that the overall preparation period was shortened by more than two months compared with previous elections.

Despite the tighter timeline, all election procedures, including the three rounds of consultation and the personnel selection process, were carried out fully and even more rigorously to ensure careful screening of candidates.

According to the National Assembly leader, the shortened schedule initially raised concerns among election organisers about whether the process could keep pace with the required timeline. However, the entire election process was ultimately implemented in a systematic and lawful manner, ensuring strict compliance with regulations.

One key factor contributing to the success of the 2026 election was the expanded application of information technology and digital transformation.

From the stage of compiling voter lists and issuing voter cards, synchronised digital databases helped election officials quickly verify voter identities and issue ballots accurately.

Real-time data updates also enabled rapid reporting from polling stations nationwide. In many cases, election data from local polling sites could be uploaded to the central system within 10 to 15 minutes, allowing authorities to closely monitor the progress of voting and vote counting across the country.

According to Thanh, the effectiveness of digital tools helped compensate for the shortened preparation period while improving transparency and accuracy in election statistics.

New approaches in election campaigning

The election also saw several innovations in campaigning and voter engagement. Candidates were allowed to submit electronic documents during the nomination process, helping streamline administrative procedures and making it easier for relevant agencies to organise consultation rounds.

In addition, traditional in-person voter meetings were combined with online engagement formats, enabling candidates to reach a broader audience more quickly.

Instead of meeting only a few thousand voters through conventional gatherings, candidates could connect with voters across multiple localities simultaneously, allowing more citizens to follow their policy platforms and action plans.

According to election officials, this approach reflects a broader trend toward digital transformation in public governance.

Following the completion of voting, authorities are now rapidly compiling and reviewing election data. Thanks to the application of information technology, the process of aggregating results has been significantly faster than in previous elections.

A national conference reviewing the election is scheduled to take place in early April. The newly elected 16th National Assembly is expected to convene its first session in early April 2026 to deliberate on key national issues and complete the process of consolidating the leadership structure of the state in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
