In Vietnam, the tradition of voting has long been a distinctive feature of the country’s political and social life. Since the first general election in 1946, each election has provided an opportunity for people to exercise their democratic rights and directly choose representatives who reflect their will and aspirations. Every ballot cast is not only a choice but also an expression of voters’ trust in those elected- representatives entrusted with turning that trust into action for the benefit of the people and the country’s development. This delegation of authority gives election day its special meaning- a nationwide day of trust.

Broad participation in political life, together with a people-centred development orientation, has contributed to Vietnam’s notable achievements in recent years.

According to United Nations reports, Vietnam has made significant progress in human development and improving social well-being. The Human Development Index (HDI) has reached 0.766, placing the country among those with a high level of human development. These gains stem from sustained efforts to expand access to education, healthcare and social protection while creating more opportunities for people.

Kanni Wignaraja, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), said Vietnam is moving in the right direction toward becoming an upper-middle-income country and beyond.

International experts also link these achievements to Vietnam’s ongoing efforts to improve institutions and enhance national governance. In this process, the National Assembly plays an important role in developing and refining the legal system, creating a stable legal framework for economic development while promoting social policies aimed at equity and sustainability.

According to Toshiro Nishizawa, an expert at the Graduate School of Public Policy at the University of Tokyo, Vietnam’s recent policies clearly illustrate a people-centred development model.

Meanwhile, Julien Seillan, Director of the Agence Française de Développement in Vietnam, said the country is entering a particularly important period of development.
