VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on May 29 visited and extended Vesak greetings to senior leaders of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of Vesak 2026 (Buddhist Calendar 2570).
At the meeting, the National Assembly leader conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, lay followers and Buddhist communities nationwide for a peaceful and joyful Vesak season marked by solidarity and compassion.
He emphasised that throughout Vietnam’s history, Buddhism has consistently accompanied the nation and stayed closely connected with the people. He noted that the traditions of “protecting the nation and serving the people” and “Buddhism accompanying the nation” have become enduring values of Vietnamese society.
The top legislator highlighted that representatives of religious organisations, including the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, have participated in multiple terms of the National Assembly and People’s Councils.
He reaffirmed that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly and Government have paid close attention to religious affairs and continued improving the legal framework related to belief and religion.
According to the National Assembly Chairman, several recently adopted laws, including the 2026 Law on Belief and Religion, the revised Land Law, Education Law and Cultural Heritage Law, further clarify and protect the rights of religious organisations.
He also noted that the National Assembly and Government have introduced coordination mechanisms and assigned ministries and agencies, particularly the Ministry of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, to support major religious events organised by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
The leader highly appreciated the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s role as a member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and its contributions to implementing Party policies, socio-economic development, charity work, education, healthcare, environmental protection and disaster relief activities.
“The Party and State always recognise and highly value the contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to national construction and defence,” he stressed.
The National Assembly Chairman expressed hope that Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang, supreme patriarch of the Patronage Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, together with Buddhist dignitaries and followers, would continue guiding the Sangha in implementing Party guidelines and State laws, contributing to Vietnam’s development in the coming period.
He noted that 2026 holds special significance for the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha as it marks the 45th anniversary of its establishment and the organisation of Buddhist congresses at all levels, culminating in the 10th National Buddhist Congress.
He wished the congresses every success and believed that the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha would continue to grow stronger, integrate internationally and further contribute to national development.
Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang expressed appreciation for the National Assembly Chairman’s remarks, noting that throughout its 45 years of development, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha has united monks, nuns and followers while overcoming challenges and contributing meaningfully to national construction and defense.
He affirmed that the Sangha would continue working closely with authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and mass organisations in strengthening national solidarity, religious harmony and social welfare activities.
The Buddhist leader also praised recent policies adopted by the National Assembly, saying they helped remove bottlenecks for socio-economic development and reflected the aspirations of the people.
He expressed confidence that under the Party’s leadership, Vietnam would continue achieving strong progress in the new development era.
