Government leader makes field trip to flood hit areas
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 10 made a field trip to Viet Yen town of northern Bac Giang province which has been severely flooded by heavy rain for the past few days.
He took a canoe to Van Ha commune of Viet Yen town which has been cut off by rising floodwaters, to offer encouragement to residents and asked local authorities to relocate residents to safe locations, making sure that no one will be left without food, clothing, or shelter.
He also urgently requested the transportation of essential supplies, including food, dry rations, instant noodles, drinking water, to the isolated areas as quickly as possible to support the affected residents.
At an online meeting connected to flood-hit localities in the northern region, held at the headquarters of the Viet Yen Town administration, the PM extended his condolences to families affected by flash floods and landslides, and directed local authorities to effectively implement policies and provide timely support to the affected residents.
Through on-site inspections, floodwaters in the Tuong and Cau Rivers are swelling up, requiring localities and relevant agencies to closely monitor the situation, handle emerging issues flexibly, and manage floodwater discharges according to legal regulations while ensuring the safety of residents, said the PM.
He emphasized the need to utilize provincial reserves for timely assistance to residents and businesses, and to report to the central government for additional assistance if necessary.
The goal is to ensure no one suffers from hunger, cold, or lack of shelter, he said, reminding that priority will be given to vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, children and people with disability.
The PM also asked relevant agencies and sectors to try hard to maintain operations of electricity and communication systems.
Typhoon Yagi slammed into northern Vietnam on September 7, bringing strong winds and heavy rain, subsequently causing landslides and flash floods, especially in mountainous localities.
Though Yagi has already dissipated, heavy rain is set to continue falling, threatening mountainous localities.
