Anti-wastefulness efforts must be continuous and without limits, says PM

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has emphasized that anti-wastefulness efforts must be continuous and without limits, to ensure that all sectors remain vigilant and proactive in wastefulness prevention and control at all levels.

This campaign requires persistent action, strict accountability, and ongoing institutional improvements to maximize efficiency and leverage national resources for development, said Chinh at the first meeting of the National Steering Committee for Wastefulness Prevention and Control in Hanoi on February 25.

He affirmed that the fight against wastefulness is a key responsibility of the entire political system, carried out under the leadership of the Party, the management of the State, and the active engagement of the people and businesses.

It must be carried out continuously, from top to bottom, from inside out and without limits, said the PM, adding each authority must take responsibility within their jurisdiction, and if beyond their authority, they must report to the competent level.

In addition, he emphasized that the fight must be closely linked to the streamlining of the administrative apparatus, implementation of national development tasks, and realsation of the three strategic breakthroughs, including removing institutional obstacles and addressing bottlenecks in major projects.

Despite progress made, the PM said, wastefulness remains widespread in various forms, causing severe consequences for national development. He highlighted key sectors where wastefulness persists, including financial management, credit, public assets, public investment, land use, mineral resources, state capital in enterprises, labour management, and work efficiency.

To address the challenges, the government leader called for unified awareness of anti-wastefulness efforts across all sectors, both public and private, with determined and effective action. He stressed the need to review and amend outdated regulations, finalize the law on saving and anti-wastefulness, and develop the national strategy on wastefulness prevention and control.

He asked for a greater effort to resolve long-standing, stalled projects, saying failure to comply strictly or submit reports on time will result in accountability reviews and strict handling in accordance with Party regulations and State laws.

An important solution, according to the PM, is to accelerate administrative reform by reducing unnecessary procedures, enhancing decentralization, and emphasizing individual accountability. In addition, it is necessary to step up digital transformation, with a primary focus on promoting smart governance, leveraging AI and Big Data for monitoring and resource management across economic and social sectors.

Last but not least, he requested ministries, sectors and localities to review and ensure effective inter-agency coordination in accordance with Party regulations and state laws.

This is the first meeting of the National Steering Committee for Wastefulness Prevention and Control to review work, complete the organisational structure, and work out a plan of action.

The meeting was held in person at the Government Headquarters and virtually connected to 63 provinces and centrally run cities nationwide.
