Committee for Wastefulness Prevention and Control convenes first meeting

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired the first meeting of the National Steering Committee for Wastefulness Prevention and Control in Hanoi on February 25 to review work, complete the organisational structure, and work out a plan of action.

The meeting was held in person at the Government Headquarters and virtually connected to 63 provinces and centrally run cities nationwide.

In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister, who is the head of the Committee, emphasized that anti-waste efforts are of great concern to the Party and the State as this work helps strengthen national resources, ensure social security, and promote development, especially in the current revolutionary phase.

The Politburo has issued a directive to strengthen the Party’s leadership in practicing thrift and combating wastefulness. In response to the directive, the Government has taken decisive actions to remove institutional barriers and address economic bottlenecks that lead to resource wastage.

To tackle these challenges, the Government has established a steering committee to review and resolve difficulties related to policies, mechanisms, and economic inefficiencies. The primary focus is on resolving issues in land management, renewable energy projects, public asset utilization in state-owned enterprises, the restructuring of four poor performing commercial banks, along with addressing 12 loss-making industrial projects.

Despite progress made, the PM said, wastefulness remains widespread in various forms, causing severe consequences for national development. He highlighted key sectors where wastefulness persists, including financial management, credit, public assets, public investment, land use, mineral resources, state capital in enterprises, labour management, and work efficiency.

According to the Government leader, wastefulness not only depletes human and financial resources but also reduces production efficiency, increases costs, exhausts natural resources, widens the wealth gap, and erodes public trust in the Party and the State. It also creates an invisible barrier to socio-economic progress, leading to missed development opportunities.

To address these issues, the Government has established the Steering Committee for Wastefulness Prevention and Control to eliminate economic inefficiencies and create a strong, lasting impact on this critical issue.

The PM instructed the committee to review past initiatives, assess results and challenges, identify lessons learned, and develop a plan of action for the future. He particularly emphasized the need to resolve long-standing projects to free up economic resources.
