16 contracts worth US$286 million signed at Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024
VOV.VN - 16 contracts valued at approximately US$286.3 million were signed primarily by the General Department of Defense Industry and Military Industry and Telecoms Group Viettel of Vietnam at the 2024 Vietnam International Defense Exhibition, according to expo organisers.
In addition, 17 strategic cooperation agreements were also established with companies from countries with advanced defense industries, including the United States, India, France, and Belgium, said organisers at a press briefing reviewing the results of the expo.
The Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024 took place at the Gia Lam Military Airport on the outskirts of Hanoi from December 19 to 22, attracting a large number of defense industry enterprises both domestically and internationally, as well as thousands of visitors.
Organisers said more than 240 organizations and companies from Vietnam and 48 other countries showcased their products and technologies at the expo. Throughout the four-day event, thematic workshops were held, providing platforms for in-depth discussions and collaboration opportunities.
According to Major General Le Quang Tuyen, deputy director of the General Department of Defense Industry, the exhibition strengthened public confidence in the growth of Vietnam’s defense industry and the capabilities of its military. It also enhanced national pride and awareness of citizens’ roles in safeguarding the nation.
In addition, the event affirmed Vietnam’s correct foreign policy approach and expanded defense cooperation with other countries.
Addressing the opening ceremony on December 19, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to the “Four Nos” defense policy that is not joining military alliances, not aligning with one country to oppose another, not allowing foreign military bases or using its territory against any other country, and not using force or threatening to use force in international relations.
In his view, Vietnam vows to build a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army; and develop a robust national defense capacity to enhance its self-defense and protect the country in any circumstances.
He also highlighted Vietnam’s commitment to promoting defense cooperation to strengthen friendship, mutual understanding, and trust, while jointly addressing common security and safety challenges, preventing conflicts, and ensuring peace in line with international law.
By noon on December 22, the exhibition had welcomed over 260,000 visitors from the public and the defense industry.
