WEF affirms support to Vietnam’s sci-tech, innovation development efforts

VOV.VN - WEF will continue to connect Vietnam with major global corporations and investment funds to help foster its sustainable economic development and enhance its position on the international stage, said Professor Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the WEF, during a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Davos on January 22.

Schwab affirmed that the WEF will support Vietnam in attracting high-quality investments in its priority sectors, as well as in developing high-quality human resources and fostering innovation. He also emphasized that the recent inauguration of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City marks a significant milestone in the relationship between the two sides.

The professor welcomed the Prime Minister’s participation in the 55th WEF Annual Meeting 2025 in Davos which he said holds special significance for the WEF and the global business community.

In his opinions, Vietnam is playing an increasingly important role in reshaping the geopolitical landscape of the region and the world. He lauded Vietnam’s socio-economic development achievements, describing the country as a model of economic growth that successfully combines economic development with environmental protection.

Chinh for his part expressed his delight at the positive developments in the relationship between Vietnam and the WEF in recent years, particularly the inauguration of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City, which he affirmed as a significant milestone in their partnership.

The Prime Minister highly commended Schwab’s visionary and strategic leadership in founding the WEF and transforming it into one of the world’s most influential economic forums - a platform where leaders from countries, organizations, and major global corporations convene to exchange ideas and solutions. He also emphasized that the theme of the WEF 2025, Cooperation in the Smart Era, aligns with Vietnam’s focus and priorities in promoting international cooperation and development in the coming era.

He shared that Vietnam has adopted a resolution on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. The resolution identifies these areas as the top strategic breakthroughs and primary drivers for rapidly advancing modern productive forces, refining production relations, innovating national governance methods, and fostering socio-economic development.

He proposed that Schwab help Vietnam foster connections with WEF member companies, experts, and scientists to help the country develop an innovation and science-technology ecosystem. He also proposed that the WEF assist Vietnam co-host an annual global-scale economic forum in Ho Chi Minh City.

On this occasion, the PM invited Schwab and other WEF leaders to participate in the 4th Summit of the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) in April 2025 and the 16th UNCTAD Ministerial Conference in October 2025 in Hanoi to share their visions as well as WEF initiatives for green growth.
