Vietnamese PM attends COP28 World Climate Action Summit in Dubai
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Mnistser Pham Minh Chinh joined more than 130 leaders of countries and international organisations at the opening ceremony of the World Climate Action Summit in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, kicking off the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28).
The COP28 conference is of paramount importance in the context that climate change continues to be the biggest global challenge, receiving the highest attention from the international community in 2023.
The Vietnamese Prime Minister’s participation in COP28 sends a strong message to international friends about Vietnam’s proactive, positive, and responsible engagement in handling climate change - one of the biggest and most common global challenges. It affirms Vietnam’s role and position in regional and international cooperation frameworks, as well as its consistent policy on building a green economy and circular economy.
Recently, Vietnam has made efforts to practically and effectively implement commitments at the COP26 conference in Scotland two years ago, contributing to the international community’s joint effort in solving global challenges.
It has approved a project on sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-carbon rice associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta until 2030, and the national power development plan VIII for 2021-2030 with a vision for 2050. It has also been implementing many renewable energy projects, and mobilizing resources for implementing the just energy transition partnership (JETP) agreement with G7 countries and partners.
