Vietnam supports stronger defense cooperation with Laos

Gen. Giang said Vietnam remembers Laos’ support and assistance in the past struggle for national independence and liberation, as well as in national construction at present.

Vietnam always attaches great importance to consolidating and strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation with Laos, he told his guest.

According to the Defense Minister, the friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has developed comprehensively over the years, recording important results, despite regional and global changes.

He highly appreciated the results of the talks between the directors of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army and the Laos People’s Army, as well as cooperation between the two armies and two general departments in particular.

He suggested that the two sides strengthen cooperation, focusing on Party building and protection of common borders, contributing to building and developing the material and spiritual life of people in border areas, while promoting border trade.

The minister also suggested that the two sides better prepare for the first border defense friendship exchange at the ministerial level between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia to be held this December.

The Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam supports and creates the best possible condition for cooperation between the two armies to yield greater results moving forward, the minister assured his guest.

Sen. Lieu. Gen. Thongloi Silivong thanked Vietnam for providing valuable assistance to the Laos People’s Army over the years, and affirmed that the General Political Department of the Laos People’s Army would try hard to effectively implement agreements between the two sides.
