Senior Lao defense officer visits Vietnam
VOV.VN - General Luong Cuong, director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, hosted a welcoming ceremony in Hanoi on September 26 for Senior Lieutenant General Thongloi Silivong, Deputy Defense Minister and director of the General Political Department of the Laos People’s Army.
Silivong’s official visit to Vietnam tis taking place at a time when the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos is constantly developing in all areas.
Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, the two military officers co-chaired the talks on measures to foster cooperation between the two armies.
Gen. Cuong reaffirmed that the Party, State and People’s Army of Vietnam always value relations with Laos, considering this a top priority in its foreign policy.
Vietnam always wishes to work closely with Laos to continuously strengthen the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, States, people and armies, he assured his guest.
He noted that defense cooperation is one of the important pillars of the Vietnam – Laos relationship. The two sides have always coordinated closely, cooperated reliably, and offered positive recommendations regarding military and defense work to their senior leadership, making important contributions to maintaining a peaceful environment in each country for mutual development.
On future cooperation, the two sides agreed to continue coordinating closely and implementing effectively the common perceptions of senior leaders of the two Parties and States, as well as the results of the September 6, 2023 meeting between Party leaders of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern. Gen. Cuong emphasized that the Party and State of Vietnam are always steadfast in their foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations, as well as the ‘four nos’ defense policy.
