Vietnam steps up cooperation with Karlovy Vary (Czech Republic)
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam on April 28 paid a working visit to Karlovy Vary, a famous tourist destination of the Czech Republic, to promote local cooperation and cultural exchanges.
Receiving the Ambassador, Karlovy Vary Governor Petr Kubis welcomed the recent positive developments in Vietnam–Czech relations, particularly the elevation of ties to a Strategic Partnership in January 2025. He praised the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic for its diligence, generosity and meaningful contributions to the country’s socio-economic development, describing it as a model of successful integration.
He also announced that the local administration supports the organisation of the final round of the Mrs Áo Dài Vietnam Europe pageant, scheduled to take place in Karlovy Vary on June 5–6, with contestants of Vietnamese origin from 14 European countries.
Regarding local cooperation, Kubis highlighted the twinning agreement signed between Karlovy Vary and Vietnam’s Quang Ninh province in 2018, expressing hope that both sides would step up exchanges and implement practical measures to deepen collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
Echoing these remarks, Karlovy Vary Mayor Pfeffer Ferklova expressed appreciation for Karlovy Vary being selected as the host city for the pageant. She affirmed the city’s readiness to support the event, noting that it would help bring Vietnamese cultural identity closer to Czech audiences while strengthening cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam thanked the regional and city authorities for their strong support and goodwill towards the Vietnamese community living and working in Karlovy Vary.
He reaffirmed that Vietnam considers the Czech Republic an important partner and a gateway to the European Union and Central Europe. Stressing the importance of local cooperation and cultural exchanges in bilateral ties, he noted that alongside economic, trade, scientific and educational collaboration, these areas hold significant potential and should be further promoted.
The ambassador also proposed that local authorities support the introduction of Vietnamese as an optional subject in primary and secondary schools in the region.
On the same day, Ambassador Nam met with the leadership of Moser Group, a leading Czech crystal manufacturer based in Karlovy Vary, to explore opportunities for cooperation with Vietnamese artisans, designers and businesses, with a view to expanding into Southeast Asian markets.
