Vietnam, Czech parties boost understanding and political trust
VOV.VN - The Communist Party of Vietnam and the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia (Czech Republic) hosted an exchange meeting in Prague on April 20 to enhance mutual understanding and political trust.
At the gathering, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam presented key outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, along with the country’s major achievements over nearly 40 years of Đổi mới (Renewal) launched in 1986.
The country’s economic scale has expanded from US$4.5 billion in 1986 to US$514 billion in 2025. Vietnam has signed and implemented 16 free trade agreements (FTAs), while total registered FDI reached US$38.42 billion as of December 31, 2025, compared to just US$0.04 million in 1986. Vietnam has also actively expanded its foreign relations and deepened international integration in a comprehensive manner.
In terms of national defence and security, Vietnam has renewed its military and defence thinking, building a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern People’s Army, strengthening all-people national defence in tandem with people’s security, and enhancing its capacity to safeguard national sovereignty.
On foreign policy, the Ambassador reaffirmed that Vietnam would continue to pursue an independent, self-reliant, peaceful and cooperative foreign policy, while promoting multilateralisation and diversification of international relations.
Regarding the Vietnam–Czech Republic Strategic Partnership, he noted that both sides are finalising an action plan for the 2026–2030 period, while continuing to promote high-level exchanges and mutual support at multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations, Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), and ASEAN–EU frameworks.
Representatives of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia expressed strong interest in the information shared, spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievements, and reaffirmed their support and desire to further strengthen cooperation in the coming period.
