Vietnam seeks to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Kazakhstan

VOV.VN - Vietnam highly values and seeks to strengthen its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Kazakhstan, affirmed Party General Secretary To Lam during his meeting with Maulen Ashimbayev, chairman of Kazakh Senate in the capital city of Astana, on May 5.

To Lam, who is on an official visit to Kazakhstan, told his host Vietnam wants to share and exchange experiences in socio-economic development with Kazakhstan, believing that complementing each other’s strengths and potentials will bring practical benefits to both sides.

He highlighted that, in the context of regional and global changes, the relationship between Vietnam and Kazakhstan not only serves as a driving force for bilateral cooperation but also acts as an important bridge connecting the two countries to the continents of Asia and Europe, contributing to peace, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and globally.

The Party leader expressed deep gratitude to Kazakhstan for its heartfelt support during Vietnam’s past struggle for national liberation and its current process of development.

He noted the historical significance of his visit, saying it coincides with Vietnam’s 50th anniversary of its victory over imperialism, and Kazakhstan’s commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism. He affirmed that without the victory over fascism, there would have been no August 1945 Revolution and no modern-day Vietnam.

Lam also congratulated the people of Kazakhstan on their impressive socio-economic achievements under the strategic leadership of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, which have enhanced the country’s global standing.

At the meeting, Ashimbayev warmly welcomed Lam’s first visit and congratulated Vietnam on the recent celebration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. Emphasising the significance of this visit, Ashimbayev affirmed Kazakhstan’s high regard for its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, a reliable and important partner of Kazakhstan in Southeast Asia.

He recalled President Ho Chi Minh’s visit to Kazakhstan in 1959, and highlighted that Lam’s visit continues the tradition of strong bilateral ties that will open new opportunities for potential cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides were pleased to see the positive progress in Vietnam–Kazakhstan relations, especially strong political trust and frequent high-level exchanges. They agreed that parliamentary cooperation is a key pillar of the bilateral relationship. The two leaders acknowledged fruitful inter-parliamentary cooperation through regular high-level contacts and cooperation between parliamentary committees in both bilateral and multilateral forums.

Economic, trade, and investment ties have seen positive developments, along with important achievements in other areas, they said, adding that with shared aspirations and complementary strengths, bilateral relations will continue to develop substantively and reach new heights.

Ashimbayev emphasised the strategic nature of the evolving relationship between the two countries, particularly as both enter new phases of development amid global uncertainties. He pledged that the Senate of Kazakhstan will actively support and promote the implementation of cooperation initiatives agreed upon by the two countries’ leaders.

Recognising the importance of parliamentary cooperation, both leaders agreed to strengthen inter-parliamentary exchanges, enhance supervision and implementation of bilateral agreements, and promote cooperation in areas such as cadre training, policy development, party building, and youth engagement to foster mutual understanding.

On this occasion, Lam conveyed the greetings and official invitation of Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Ashimbayev to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time. Ashimbayev also extended a warm invitation for Man to visit Kazakhstan.
