Party leader To Lam leaves Hanoi for state visit to Kazakhstan

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam departed Hanoi on May 5 for a state visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan at the invitation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The historic trip is expected to elevate bilateral relations to new heights, with a series of important cooperation agreements across multiple fields to be signed during the visit.

The delegation includes Politburo members: Secretary of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat and Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs Phan Dinh Trac, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Chairman of the Central Theory Council Nguyen Xuan Thang, Minister of National Defence General Phan Van Giang, and Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang.

Vietnam and Kazakhstan established diplomatic relations in 1992, shortly after the Central Asian country declared independence from the Soviet Union. Over the past three decades, the two countries have maintained a strong traditional friendship, supported each other at international forums, and shared common views on many global issues.

This is the highest-level visit by a Vietnamese leader to Kazakhstan since the establishment of diplomatic ties. The visit is anticipated to lay the groundwork for a new level of cooperation in line with the aspirations and interests of both nations.

Following the Kazakhstan leg, Party General Secretary To Lam and his delegation will pay a state visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, an official visit to the Russian Federation where they will attend the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and a state visit to the Republic of Belarus. The trip will conclude on May 12, 2025.

The four-nation tour by the Party leader underscores Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, diversification, and proactive, comprehensive, and effective international integration as outlined by the 13th National Party Congress.

It is also an opportunity to reaffirm Vietnam’s deep-rooted friendship with Russia and former Soviet countries, especially those in Central Asia and the Caucasus, who supported Vietnam in the past and continue to stand by its efforts in national development and defence. The visit highlights Vietnam’s sincere desire to further promote long-term, substantive, and mutually beneficial cooperation.
