Vietnam ready to contribute to peace and Gaza reconstruction
VOV.VN - Vietnam has reaffirmed its readiness to make active and practical contributions to international efforts to promote peace, support the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and advance the Middle East peace process.
Speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting on the Middle East and Palestine on January 28, Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Vietnam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, welcomed progress achieved in Phase I and the launch of Phase II of the “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict.”
He stressed that Security Council Resolution 2803 underscores the Council’s responsibility to ensure the initiative is implemented in line with international law, the UN Charter and commitments of the parties concerned.
The Vietnamese diplomat expressed concern over the risk of the ceasefire collapsing amid allegations of violations and continuing localized violence, while the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critical due to widespread destruction and limited improvement in essential services.
He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, prioritise the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and comply with relevant UN resolutions and provisional measures of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
He reaffirmed Vietnam’s support for the central role of the United Nations, including the Security Council, in resolving the conflict through peaceful means, and underscored the irreplaceable role of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in coordinating and delivering humanitarian assistance in Gaza.
The diplomat reiterated Vietnam’s strong support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and for initiatives promoting the two-State solution, including the UN-sponsored high-level conference and the New York Declaration of September 2025.
The Security Council held an open debate on January 28 under the presidency of Somalia, the Council’s president for January 2026, with the participation of representatives from nearly 70 UN member states and observers.
