Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia vow to reinforce trilateral cooperation
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone of Laos and Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia met during their working breakfast in Vientiane on October 9 on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings.
At the meeting, the three Prime Ministers emphasized that the tradition of solidarity, connection, and mutual support among Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos is a valuable asset and a foundation for developing cooperative and trusting relations.
They agreed that many effective trilateral cooperation mechanisms have been established, contributing significantly to strengthening cooperation among the three countries.
They held that defense and security cooperation continues to be an important pillar of their relations, while economic, trade, and investment cooperation has seen strong advancements.
People-to-people exchanges are increasingly diverse, and party-to-party cooperation plays a core role in guiding the development of relations.
In this spirit, the three sides agreed to coordinate effectively in organizing the upcoming meeting of the leaders of the ruling parties of the three countries; continue close collaboration in ensuring national security, development and defense. They vowed to maintain regular high-level and sectoral bilateral and trilateral contacts and enhance exchanges among young leaders and youth.
The Prime Ministers held that economic and trade cooperation among the three countries needs strategic breakthroughs to match the political relationship as well as the potential and strengths of each country.
They underscored the need to ensure security, safety, and order, and promote development cooperation in the three countries’ joint border areas, focusing on the effective use of border crossing systems and enhancing infrastructure, transport connectivity, and economic links among the three countries to facilitate exchanges and cooperation in the areas.
The three parties also vowed to maintain the principle of not allowing hostile forces to use one country’s territory to harm the security of another. They also agreed to organize the annual meeting of the three countries’ Defense Ministers and the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Ministerial Conference on crime prevention.
The three Prime Ministers were adamant on finding solutions to develop bilateral and trilateral cooperation mechanisms in a more effective and substantive manner for the benefit of the people of the three countries, for the common ASEAN Community, and to continue contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region.
Laos is hosting the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings in Vientiane on October 8 – 11.
