Vietnam is a development model globally, says UNCTAD leader

VOV.VN - Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Rebeca Grynspan hailed Vietnam’s development achievements, saying the country is a development model globally amid global volatility.

Meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Davos, Switzerland, on January 17, Grynspan said UNCTAD will organize a global conference this year to mark its 60th anniversary and it expects to receive Vietnamese leaders to the event to share the country’s development gains.

She also expressed her wish that Vietnam would participate and actively contribute to the UNCTAD Ministerial Conference in 2025.

The UNCTAD leader, who is former Vice President of Costa Rica, said she was looking forward to visiting Vietnam soon.

Meanwhile, PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam highly values the UNCTAD’s role in supporting developing countries, including Vietnam, in formulating development policies, contributing to maintaining a prosperous life for people.

He hoped that the UNCTAD would continue to support Vietnam in all aspects of development, especially human resources training.

The PM also expected that the UNCTAD would further increasing its role in promoting global cooperation and South-South cooperation, especially the trilateral cooperation model between Vietnam, a developed country and a less developed country.

On this occasion, the PM invited the Secretary-General to visit Vietnam soon to continue discussing measures to strengthen cooperation between the two sides.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is in Davos, Switzerland, for the 54th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum 2024.
