Vietnam, El Salvador agree to boost all-round cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and El Salvador will work closely together to bring their traditional friendship and all-round cooperation to new heights.

The agreement was reached during talks in Hanoi on February 14 between Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and his El Salvador counterpart Alexandra Hill Tinoco who is in Hanoi for a working visit to Vietnam and the opening of the Embassy of El Salvador there.

He welcomed El Salvador’s decision to open its embassy in Hanoi, which he said is an important step toward strengthening bilateral relations.

Vietnam attaches great importance to the traditional friendship with El Salvador and wishes to deepen their cooperative relations on the basis of the potential and strengths of the two sides, especially in the fields of economy, trade and investment, agriculture - food security, science - technology, culture, education and people-to-people exchanges, Son told his guest.  

He also suggested the two sides resume the operation of the political consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries and maintain close coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums.

Foreign Minister Hill Tinoco for her part affirmed that the Government of El Salvador always desires to strengthen relations with Vietnam in its overall foreign policy toward Southeast Asia.

She said that the inauguration of the Embassy of El Salvador in Vietnam, one of the first two El Salvador embassies in Southeast Asia, would contribute to the development of cooperative relations in all fields.

The two countries will further expand cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally to bring benefits for their peoples and to contribute to addressing global challenges, said the top El Salvador diplomat.

Both host and guest agreed on measures to further strengthen the Vietnam-El Salvador relations through the exchange of delegations at all levels, bringing into full play the cooperation mechanisms, and holding the session political consultation at the deputy foreign minister level in the coming time.

They consented to promote economic - trade - investment cooperation in strong and highly supplementary fields of their countries. The fields include farm produce processing, garment making and electronic component manufacturing of Vietnam, and tourism development and aquatic farming and seafood processing of El Salvador.

They also agreed to facilitate the exchange of business delegations between the two countries.

During her stay in Hanoi from February 14-16, Minister Hill Tinoco is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, lay a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and the Monument to Heroes and War Martyrs, and visit a number of tourist attractions and cultural relics in Hanoi.
