VOV.VN - General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member and Minister of National Defence, led a high-level Vietnamese delegation to China on August 19 to participate in the 10th Vietnam–China Border Defence Friendship Exchange following activities held in Vietnam a day earlier.
Senior Lieutenant General Dong Jun, China's Minister of National Defence presided over an official welcoming ceremony for General Giang and the Vietnamese delegation at Dongxing International Border Gate in China.
During the visit, General Giang and Gen. Dong are scheduled to take part in a series of activities aimed at strengthening cooperation and mutual trust between the two militaries. These include visits to a border guard company and a joint tree-planting activity, as well as the launch of joint patrol and training operations in the Gulf of Tonkin.
The two sides will also visit a commemorative site marking the starting point of the Ho Chi Minh trail at sea, tour local enterprises, and attend a wreath-laying ceremony in tribute to revolutionary martyrs of both Vietnam and China before the official farewell at Dongxing International Border Gate.
Prior to the events in China, on March 18, a range of activities were held on the Vietnamese side in Quang Ninh province as part of the exchange. These included a formal welcoming ceremony for the Chinese high-level delegation at Mong Cai International Border Gate and bilateral talks between the two defence ministries focusing on enhancing defence cooperation and border management.
Symbolic activities such as tree planting, visits to Tra Co Border Guard Station, and engagement with Tran Phu High School also contributed to strengthening mutual understanding and solidarity between border forces and local communities.
In addition to defence diplomacy activities, several humanitarian and community-oriented programmes were implemented in Vietnam. Among them were the groundbreaking of a local health station in Hai Son commune, free medical examinations and medicine distribution for residents, scholarships for students, and livelihood support for disadvantaged households.
The 10th Vietnam–China Border Defence Friendship Exchange continues to play a significant role in enhancing political trust, strengthening bilateral relations, and promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development in border areas.
