Chinese Defence Minister arrives in Vietnam for border exchange activities
VOV.VN - Senior Lieutenant General Dong Jun, China’s Minister of National Defence alongside a high-level delegation arrived in Vietnam on March 18 to attend activities under the 10th Vietnam-China Border Defence Friendship Exchange in northern Quang Ninh province.
General Phan Van Giang, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission and Vietnam’s Minister of National Defence, chaired an official welcome ceremony for Dong Jun and his delegation.
Those in attendance at the ceremony were Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of National Defence, along with leaders of Quang Ninh province and representatives of the General Staff and the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army.
The welcome ceremony was held at Mong Cai International Border Gate, at the demarcation line on Bac Luan 1 Bridge, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, with local residents and students waving flags and flowers.
Following the welcome and a visit to the border marker, the two defence ministers planted a friendship tree at the border gate, showing a shared commitment to maintaining and promoting the tradition of solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and China.
They then attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the Hai Son Friendship Commune Health Station.
Colonel Vu Van Hung, Political Commissar of the Quang Ninh provincial Border Guard Command, said the project will consist of two storeys with a total floor area of 2,450 sq.m, including 32 rooms with full functional areas for general medical examination and treatment, administration and technical infrastructure. The facility will help improve healthcare services for officials, armed forces and local residents.
With a total investment of VND52 billion funded by the Ministry of National Defence, the project will be carried out with the highest responsibility for progress, thus ensuring quality and national standards, and will soon serve residents in the border area.
Le Van Cuong, Chairman of the Hai Son Commune People’s Committee, said local authorities and residents were honoured to welcome the two defence ministers to the groundbreaking ceremony of the health station, a project funded by Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence, and expressed appreciation for the ministry’s support for officials and residents in border areas.
Local authorities and residents pledged to coordinate closely with relevant units to ensure the project is completed on schedule and meets quality requirements, while continuing to strengthen solidarity and contribute to building Vietnam-China border of peace, friendship, cooperation and development.
