Vietnam considers Japan a reliable partner in new development era
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung affirmed that Vietnam consistently considers Japan a reliable partner in the new era of development, during his meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo on May 30.

Dung, who was in Tokyo for the 30th Nikkei Forum Future of Asia, noted with satisfaction the robust and substantive development of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, built on strong political trust between the two countries’ top leaders.
He conveyed greetings from top Vietnamese leaders to his host and remarked that the official visit to Vietnam by Ishiba and his spouse in April 2025 was a significant milestone, opening up new opportunities to further strengthen the comprehensive friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.
He expressed a desire to closely coordinate the effective implementation of high-level agreements and to continue promoting high-level exchanges and contacts to further reinforce political trust and the close bond between the two countries.
Ishiba, for his part, recalled memories and impressions from his trip, and spoke highly of Vietnam’s development vision and aspirations, as well as the dynamic spirit of the Vietnamese people as they enter a new era of growth. He expressed confidence in Vietnam’s ability to successfully achieve its development goals.
The Japanese PM also affirmed his commitment to concretely promoting the implementation of high-level agreements, especially in areas such as trade, economy, investment, science and technology, and human resource development.

Dung briefed his host on Vietnam’s new policy directions, and proposed strengthening cooperation in economy, investment, trade, culture, and education, as well as in locality-to-locality exchanges. He called for more Japanese investment in major Vietnamese projects, particularly in urban railways, high-speed rail, energy, and digital infrastructure, and encouraged the expansion of high-quality agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
On science and technology cooperation, the Deputy PM proposed deeper collaboration in green transition, digital transformation, and high-quality workforce training, particularly in the semiconductor industry. He also requested Ishiba’s support for enhancing the efficiency of the Nghi Son refinery project.
Ishiba agreed to promote cooperation in science and technology, innovation, and high-quality human resource development. He praised the hardworking and capable Vietnamese workforce in Japan, calling them an irreplaceable and vital contributor to Japan’s development. He expressed a desire to welcome even more Vietnamese workers, especially those with advanced skills.
During the meeting, the two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Both sides to closely coordinate at multilateral forums and enhance cooperation in addressing global challenges and promoting free and multilateral trade.
