Vietnam and Japan enhance energy cooperation
VOV.VN - A delegation from Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), led by Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long, conducted a working visit to Japan from May 25 - 28 to promote energy cooperation between the two countries.

Alongside technical-level meetings between working groups of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long held a working session with METI Vice Minister Takehiko Matsuo to discuss major issues related to energy and trade cooperation between the two countries.
Matsuo expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s continued recognition of the importance and potential for bilateral energy cooperation, especially in nuclear power, gas-fired power, and renewable energy.
Both officials exchanged views and explored solutions for Japanese-proposed projects aimed at supporting Vietnam’s energy transition at present.
They also examined measures to further enhance bilateral trade relations, as well as multilateral cooperation, especially in the context of ongoing global trade fluctuations.
They agreed on the need to promptly coordinate and finalise arrangements to hold the eighth meeting of the Vietnam - Japan Joint Committee on Trade, Industry, and Energy Cooperation in Vietnam.
While staying in Japan, Long visited the Embassy of Vietnam and the Vietnam Trade Office in Japan. Meeting with embassy and trade officials, he emphasised that energy cooperation remains a cornerstone of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.
He urged the Embassy and Trade Office to continue their role as bridges in promoting cooperation with METI and to actively encourage Japanese enterprises to invest and conduct business in Vietnam, particularly in areas where Vietnam has demand and Japan has strengths. He also called for stronger efforts to boost bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.
