Vietnam calls for expanded India partnership in energy, infrastructure and logistics

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on May 7 met leaders of several major Indian corporations in Mumbai, calling for deeper cooperation in energy, infrastructure and logistics as Vietnam accelerates long-term development and connectivity plans.

During a meeting with executives of India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), the leader welcomed the group’s continued expansion in oil and gas exploration activities in Vietnam, describing ONGC as an experienced and capable partner that has made practical contributions to Vietnam’s energy sector for nearly four decades.

He informed that Vietnam is prioritising both immediate and long-term energy security, including stable supplies of crude oil and natural gas, while continuing to improve its legal framework for the petroleum sector. Vietnam hopes ONGC will remain an important strategic partner in exploration and production activities to help maintain output and strengthen national energy security, he added.

The top leader stressed that cooperation should go beyond maintaining existing projects and move toward broader long-term collaboration in oil and gas exploration and development.

ONGC representatives reaffirmed their intention to remain a long-term strategic partner and continue supporting Vietnam’s energy development efforts.

Meeting leaders of engineering and infrastructure giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Party General Secretary and President To Lam highlighted Vietnam’s push to develop modern and integrated infrastructure systems and welcomed further Indian investment in infrastructure and energy projects.

He said Vietnam values L&T’s capability in implementing large-scale and technically complex infrastructure projects and is committed to creating favourable conditions for capable investors while ensuring transparency and legal compliance.

Vietnam hopes L&T can become a long-term strategic partner contributing to infrastructure modernisation and deeper economic cooperation between the two countries, he said.

L&T representatives expressed interest in participating in transportation, energy and seaport infrastructure projects in Vietnam.

In a separate meeting with executives of the Adani Group, the Vietnamese leader underscored that infrastructure, energy and logistics will serve as key pillars for Vietnam’s next phase of rapid and sustainable economic growth.

He described Adani as one of the world’s leading groups in large-scale energy, port and logistics development and welcomed its existing investments. He proposed its projects in Vietnam, particularly as demand for energy and logistics infrastructure continues to rise.

Vietnam hopes Adani will consider participating not only in standalone projects but also in broader infrastructure development programmes linking ports, logistics and energy systems, he told the executives.

Both sides could explore suitable cooperation models aligned with Vietnam’s long-term development strategy and Adani’s expansion orientation, he added.

He expressed hope that Adani would become a long-term partner accompanying Vietnam in infrastructure development, sustainable economic growth and efforts to enhance national competitiveness.
