Vietnam – Belarus friendship must be cherished, strengthened, says Party leader
VOV.VN - Party leader To Lam has said the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Belarus is a valuable asset that must be cherished, preserved, and strengthened.

Lam was speaking during his meeting with the Belarusian Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, the Belarus - Vietnam Friendship Association, and former experts who had supported Vietnam in Minsk on May 11 (local time).
In his speech at the meeting, the General Secretary expressed his heartfelt emotion upon meeting old Belarusian friends who had always stood by Vietnam, particularly the experts who had contributed during difficult times.
He emphasised that over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1992, the Vietnam–Belarus friendship has remained strong and is a precious asset for both countries.
Vietnam always values and wishes to enhance comprehensive cooperation with Belarus for mutual benefit, peace, and sustainable development, he affirmed.
The leader stated that the Vietnamese people will never forget the sincere support from the former Soviet Union and present-day Belarus in their struggle for independence and national development.

He highly appreciated the role of people-to-people organisations in preserving and promoting this friendship and in fostering exchanges and cooperation between the two countries. He called for continued organisation of diverse and engaging activities that involve people from all walks of life, especially the younger generations, as well as efforts to enhance cooperation in education, culture, trade, and investment.
Earlier that same day, the Vietnamese leader laid flowers at the Victory Monument in the capital city of Minsk to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives during the Great Patriotic War. The 40-meter-high monument, erected in 1954 and lit with an eternal flame since 1961, features carvings on all four sides depicting Victory Day (May 9, 1945), honouring the heroes and the Soviet army.
A high-raking Vietnamese delegation led by Party General Secretary To Lam arrived in Minsk on May 11, beginning a state visit to Belarus at the invitation of President Alexander Lukashenko.
