Vietnam attaches importance to special relationship with Laos
VOV.VN - The Party, State and people of Vietnam always attach great importance to and are determined to preserve and promote the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement at a reception on July 17 for Vice President of Laos Bounthong Chitmany who arrived in Hanoi the same day for a three-day official visit.
In order to deepen the cooperative relationship, Phuc suggested that the two sides regularly maintain reciprocal high-level visit exchanges, and seriously implement high-level agreements reached between the two Parties and States.
The two sides should fully tap into the potential and internal resources to make a breakthrough in trade and investment cooperation so as to become a solid pillar for bilateral relations, he said.
In addition, he said the two sides should constantly strengthen economic connectivity, jointly seek international capital for projects connecting the key economic infrastructure of Laos with the sea of Vietnam in order to enhance international integration and trade.
The two leaders emphasized the significance of the Year of Solidarity and Friendship between the two countries in 2022 Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam 2022, as well as the education of people, especially the young, about the Vietnam – Laos special relationship.
They held that the two sides should further enhance the efficiency of bilateral cooperation in education - training, health care, people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between localities, increase the frequency of commercial flights, and bring into full play the potential of cross-border cooperation.
They also agreed to continue to closely coordinate and support each other at international forums, especially in maintaining solidarity and upholding the central role of ASEAN in regional security mechanisms.
President Phuc respectfully extended his warm greetings to Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, other leaders and former leaders of the Party and State of Laos.
