Vietnam and US vow to deepen Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
VOV.VN - Vietnam and the United States reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during a meeting at the White House on February 20 between Party General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump.
The two leaders emphasised the importance of maintaining stable, substantive and effective cooperation, particularly as the bilateral relationship continues to expand across political-diplomatic, economic and technological fields.
General Secretary To Lam underscored that economic and trade cooperation remains a central pillar of the partnership and called for continued high-level exchanges and candid dialogue to address outstanding issues in a balanced and mutually beneficial manner.
Both sides welcomed the steady growth in trade and investment ties, alongside progress in science and technology, education and training, war legacy remediation, and people-to-people exchanges.
President Trump reiterated US support for a strong, independent, resilient and prosperous Vietnam and affirmed that Washington regards Vietnam as an important partner in the region. He also expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s growing role and constructive voice at regional and multilateral forums.
Science and technology cooperation featured prominently in the discussions. President Trump responded positively to Vietnam’s proposals on expanding collaboration in high-tech sectors, highlighting the potential for deeper engagement as both countries seek to foster innovation-driven growth.
Both leaders agreed that strengthening technological cooperation would contribute to long-term economic resilience and shared prosperity.
The two leaders also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. President Trump welcomed Vietnam’s participation in the Board of Peace on Gaza and praised General Secretary To Lam’s attendance at its inaugural meeting in Washington, describing it as a reflection of Vietnam’s increasing international stature and commitment to global peace efforts.
General Secretary To Lam pledged Vietnam’s readiness to coordinate closely with partners to promote peace, stability and cooperation.
President Trump said he would ask relevant agencies to review and consider removing Vietnam from its strategic export control lists (D1–D3).
At the conclusion of the meeting, General Secretary To Lam extended an invitation to President Trump and the First Lady to visit Vietnam in the near future. President Trump accepted the invitation with pleasure.
