Vietnam leader attends Gaza Board of Peace opening in Washington
VOV.VN - To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, joined other world leaders at the opening session of the Gaza Board of Peace in Washington, D.C., on February 19.
The Vietnamese General Secretary arrived in the US capital on February 18 for the ceremony at the invitation of US President Donald Trump, who serves as the founding chairman of the Gaza Board of Peace.
Vietnam has become a founding member state of the Board of Peace on Gaza, reaffirming its willingness to contribute to multilateral diplomacy aimed at fostering peace, humanitarian relief and the reconstruction of Gaza in line with the UN Security Council resolution.
Ahead of the Washington meeting, Vietnam also participated in preparatory activities related to the Board of Peace charter. Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son attended a ceremony in Davos, Switzerland, where the charter on ending the Gaza conflict was signed, underscoring Vietnam’s involvement in global peace initiatives.
Experts and international coverage see Vietnam’s participation as indicative of its growing role in global diplomacy, particularly in efforts to address protracted conflicts and promote stability. News outlets noted that the Party chief’s presence reflects Vietnam’s broader commitment to peaceful resolution and cooperation with the international community.
The Board of Peace on Gaza was established with broad international participation to advance sustainable peace and long-term solutions for the Gaza Strip, emphasising humanitarian assistance, reconstruction and adherence to international law. Delegates at the Washington session are expected to discuss mechanisms for cooperation and implementation of peace plans between Israel and Palestine.
Vietnam’s attendance at the opening session comes amid deepening ties with the United States, including cooperation within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The event will provide additional momentum for bilateral cooperation on international and regional issues.
