Vietnam and Uruguay hold political consultation in Hanoi
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Uruguay have discussed measures to foster bilateral relations, including economic cooperation, and increase collaboration at multilateral forums during the 5th Political Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.

The political consultation was co-chaired by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang and his Uruguayan counterpart Valeria Csusaki Cabrera, during the latter’s visit to Vietnam from August 18 - 20.
Giang affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to promoting relations with Uruguay within the overall framework of its foreign policy towards Latin America. He also appreciated Uruguayan political parties’ participation in Vietnam’s 80th National Day celebrations, considering this as evidence of the strong relations between the two countries across Party-to-Party, State-to-State, and people-to-people channels.
Csusaki for her part reaffirmed that Uruguay regards Vietnam as a priority partner in its regional policy and it wishes to work with Vietnam to serve as a gateway for trade and investment connectivity between Southeast Asia and South America. She also noted that Uruguay looks forward to exchanging experience and fostering cooperation with Vietnam in science and technology, innovation, digital economy development, high-quality human resource training, private sector development, and international integration.
Both sides agreed on measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the coming time, including promoting high-level delegation exchanges; and effectively implementing existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, such as the Political Consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and the Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation.
They agreed to review, update, and improve the legal frameworks for cooperation, particularly in trade, customs, science and technology, and agriculture, while coordinating on the establishment of a “Vietnam Space” in Uruguay’s capital Montevideo and enhancing cooperation in culture, sports, and education and training.
The two diplomats also examined cooperation in promoting the launch of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), of which Uruguay is a member to create a framework for further enhancing bilateral trade and investment.
They also pledged to strengthen coordination and mutual support at international organisations and multilateral forums, including the United Nations, while increasing cooperation between Vietnam, ASEAN, and regional organisations in Latin America.
