Turkey attaches importance to multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam

VOV.VN - Turkey attaches great importance to strengthening multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam, a country with a particularly important position in Southeast Asia, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.

Receiving Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Ankara on November 29, Erdogan welcomed Chinh’s visit which he said took place at a time when the two countries are celebrating 45 years of their diplomatic ties, opening up a new era in bilateral relations.

He thanked Vietnam for providing personnel and medical equipment to support Turkish people following the deadly earthquake in February 2023.

Erdogan affirmed that Turkey is keen to promote trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam, striving to raise bilateral trade turnover to US$5 billion in the coming time. He noted with satisfaction the effective operation of Turkish businesses in Vietnam, and proposed that the two sides expand cooperation in the fields of tourism, health, and energy, among others.

He welcomed Chinh’s proposals that the two countries should soon convene the eighth meeting of the Vietnam – Turkey Inter-governmental Committee and the fifth Political Consultation between the two Foreign Ministries in the first half of 2024.

Meanwhile, Chinh proposed that Turkey create conditions for key Vietnamese export items such as footwear, agricultural products and seafood to make inroads into its supermarket chains and distribution systems. He also encouraged Turkish enterprises to invest in the fields of hydrogen development, infrastructure, and logistics in Vietnam.

Exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, they emphasized the importance of complying with international law, ensuring peace, security and development in the two regions and around the world.

On this occasion, Chinh asked Turkey to create conditions for Vietnamese expatriates to integrate well into their host country.

He also announced that Vietnam would contribute US$500,000 through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to provide emergency humanitarian relief to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.\

Chinh conveyed Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong’s invitation to visit Vietnam in 2024 to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
