Vietnam and Russia deepen economies ties at Moscow business forum
VOV.VN - Vietnam and Russia reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic, trade and energy cooperation at a joint business forum held in Moscow, Russia, on March 24.
The forum brought together more than 220 delegates from 120 leading enterprises of both countries across sectors including telecommunications, finance, agriculture, tourism, industry and construction.
Speaking at the forum, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko highlighted the steady development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries across key areas, including trade, investment, defence, energy and people-to-people exchanges. He described Vietnam as a trusted long-term partner of Russia in Southeast Asia and affirmed Russia’s readiness to supply energy resources such as oil, coal, as well as agricultural products including wheat, meat and fertilisers.
He also called for expanding transport connectivity, noting the need to open new logistics routes and increase flight frequency to boost tourism flows between the two countries.
Welcoming the signing of a bilateral agreement on nuclear energy cooperation, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of developing clean energy, including nuclear power using advanced technologies.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, for his part, said there remains vast potential for bilateral cooperation, and expressed hope that the forum would serve as a platform for businesses to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic ties.
He outlined Vietnam’s development strategy based on three pillars - a socialist-oriented democracy, a rule-of-law state, and a socialist-oriented market economy, alongside strategic breakthroughs in institutions, infrastructure and human resources. Vietnam is also prioritising emerging sectors such as digital transformation, green transition, the circular economy and innovation.
Vietnam aims to achieve double-digit economic growth in the coming years, with the goal of becoming a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030, and a high-income developed nation by 2045, he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted energy as a key priority, including the long-term development of nuclear energy and a comprehensive energy ecosystem. He called on Russia to invest in nuclear energy development in Vietnam and to expand cooperation in oil and gas exploration and processing, as well as renewable energy.
He also proposed stronger cooperation in railway development to facilitate bilateral trade flows. He voiced Vietnam’s readiness to create favourable conditions for Russia to establish educational and training institutions in Vietnam, particularly in key fields such as nuclear energy, oil and gas, and advanced sciences.
Calling for greater financial support, the Prime Minister urged banks to facilitate business cooperation and help build a stronger bilateral business ecosystem.
“I call on businesses from both countries to translate our strong political ties into concrete projects and products, bringing tangible benefits to our people and further strengthening bilateral relations,” he said.
In the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and senior leaders of both countries, businesses exchanged four cooperation agreements in the fields of oil and gas, maritime transport, railways and logistics.
