Vietnam and Japan promote strategic cooperation

VOV.VN - The Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam jointly organized a seminar in Hanoi on January 18 reviewing 50 years of Vietnam – Japan relations (1973-2023) and outlining orientations for future cooperation.

Addressing the event, Japanese Ambassador Yamada Takio emphasized that Japan-Vietnam relations are developing rapidly and are at their best ever, thanks to the close bond, deep sympathy and sharing with each other.

Such the close bond is a solid foundation for the two countries to build even better relations in the coming time, he stressed.

According to the diplomat, Vietnam and Japan have many things in common culturally and historically. The two countries have satisfied all conditions to elevate their relations to new heights as evidenced in the lifting of their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2023 that will give them more opportunities to further foster bilateral cooperation.

Nguyen Xuan Thang, director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, for his part said during the past half century, Japan has always been a leading partner and one of the largest ODA providers, making an important contribution to hunger eradication and poverty reduction and infrastructure development in Vietnam.

Japan is currently Vietnam’s second largest trading partner, with two-way trade turnover last year reaching US$70.3 billion. It is one of the largest investors in Vietnam, with a total registered investment capital of US$81.1 billion.

The two countries have stood the test of time over the past 50 years to build an exemplary role model of good relations based on comprehensive cooperation and a high level of strategic trust, said Thang.

They are now promoting economic-trade-investment cooperation and cooperation in the fields of industry, agriculture, services, and supporting industries along with digital transformation, green transformation, energy transformation, and human resource training, in order to meet commitments in the 2023 joint statement on the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership.
